Quick Thought: Howard Still Too Fun Loving For You?
Not too long ago, Sports Illustrated, and even a member of Orlando Magic management, questioned whether or not Dwight Howard was enjoying himself too much. I guess the question arose from the fact that Howard, albeit the NBA’s best defender this season, had yet to establish himself as a dominant force in the paint—on the offensive end.
Of course, this flies right in the face of the fact that on a constant basis we see Dwight Howard dunking, soaring above the rim, and catching alley-oop passes. How that is not considered dominating, I’m not sure, but needless to say, I guess Howard’s 20 PPG just weren’t enough for some.
Now as the Orlando Magic sit just one game away from reaching the NBA Finals, do we still have to ask ourselves whether or not Dwight Howard is too fun loving?
Sure, the man throws up a few trick shots from half court during pre-game warmups, but then he goes out and posts 20-20 games in the playoffs.
Yes, he imitates his coach on national television, and then dunks right on top of Anderson Varejao’s head.
Maybe he is too friendly with his on-court foes before and after games, but he throws bows at peoples heads in between the whistles.
And yes, he likes to tell jokes and (God-forbid) laugh, but he wasn’t telling knock-knock jokes when got his 5th technical foul of the NBA playoffs the other night.
Say what you will about Dwight Howard, but as long as he is pulling down rebounds and dunking on top of people’s heads, I won’t question whether or not he’s too fun loving—and I think Anderson Varejao wouldn’t say so either.
